Designing Decades

Sourced from various corners of the globe, these posters served as announcements for architectural exhibitions, lectures, and commemorative events. They span from Ivy League institutions such as Cornell, Columbia, and Yale to world renowned Museums such as RIBA Heinz, Centre Pompidou, and the Smithsonian. The posters highlight an era of diverse stylistic expressions of architects and institutions, and collectively accentuate the experimental design choices of the 1970s - 80s.

Curated from the private collection of Judith York Newman, American architect, educator, and owner of SPACED Gallery, this presentation commemorates her longstanding commitment to intersecting architecture and art. Newman was the first to establish a gallery in New York City focused on architectural drawings. Having been a close friend of Paul Rudolph and a board member to the institute, this gallery show of over 40 works was exhibited on the 5th and 6th floors of the Modulightor building.

This show revived SPACED, which had been dormant since 2019, and marked the last show for the gallery and Judith York Newman who is now 90 years old.
